Welcome to LakeSpa Wellness Centre

Supporting the Local Community for over four decades

The Centre was the vision of LakeSpa founder and owner Maggie Sands, who has

been in the industry since 1975. From humble beginnings in a local home practice,

to its initial commercial premises in Goobarabah Road, Lake Haven opposite the

shopping centre, the current Centre was thoughtfully designed and built to provide

the best experience for clients. The current building opened its doors in 2001.

Maggie Sands the founder/CEO has worked consistently since the early 80's

professionally and politically to advance the Natural Medicine industry in Australia.

Her initial training included Hypnotherapy which lead to professional training in Naturopathy, Western Herbal Medicine, Naturopathic Nutrition, and Remedial Massage. The School of Integrated Body Therapy (SIBT) commenced in 1985 and
became a Government registered RTO in 1999. Prior to the initial Government training packages in Massage commencing in 2002. SIBT offered student massage clinics for over 35 years assisting the local community with their musculoskeletal
concerns.

“Natural Medicine in the 1980s and 1990s saw a revolutionary wave of interest with a desire for many people to explore and enhance their own health and wellbeing,” says Maggie.

During those years there was rapid growth in the profession to which Maggie then went on to dedicate 37 years as a Director of the Australian Traditional Medicine Society (ATMS). During these years Maggie held the positions of President, Treasurer, Vice-President, and Chair of many interal committees, and was awarded life membership for her service in 1999. Maggie represented ATMS on the world stage as well as nationally and has presented at numerous  conferences in Australian and overseas.

Maggie was awarded for her service to the industry, the XFactor Trailblazer award announced at the NATEX/FX Medicine Conference in 2022.

Maggie was instrumental in the initiation of the Australian Natural Medicine Week which since its inception has seen exponential growth. She is also responsible for initiating the ATMS national CPE program, the co-authoring of the initial ATMS constitution, and the establishment of Friends of Natural Medicine.

SIBT went on to train and graduate thousands of Remedial Massage practitioners in Australia and via a grant from Austrade, also in Asian countries in particular Singapore and Vietnam. In the early days, SIBT took massage training to regional NSW inclusive of Broken Hill, Muswellbrook, Dubbo, Singleton, Newcastle, and the Central Coast.

SIBT graduated its final group of students in December 2022 during the Covid period.

The LakeSpa Wellness Centre guided by Maggie, continues to offer a wide range of natural therapies and drug-free options to promote the body’s own unique intrinsic power to heal itself. Since semi-retiring in 2024, Maggie has been enjoying travelling and catching up with friends near and far.
